Heating Help May Be Available This Winter
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps Pennsylvania families pay home heating costs. For the 2026-2027 season, Pennsylvania proposes accepting applications from November 2, 2026, through April 9, 2027. Funding levels may change, so apply early and watch for final state updates.
Proposed Household Income Guidelines
Pennsylvania’s proposed plan lists cash grants from $200 to $1,000 and crisis grants from $25 to $1,000, based on income, household size, fuel type, and need. To qualify, your household income must fall within these limits:
- 1 person: $23,940
- 2 people: $32,460
- 3 people: $40,980
- 4 people: $49,500
- 5 people: $58,020
- 6 people: $66,540
- 7 people: $75,060
- 8 people: $83,580
Add $8,520 for each additional person.
Qualifying for Heating Assistance
Households that meet the income limits and pay for heat may qualify. You can apply whether you pay a fuel supplier directly or pay heating costs as part of rent. Applicants must live in Pennsylvania and provide income information.
Getting Your Application Started
Pennsylvania residents can apply once the program opens. Gather income information, household details, fuel supplier information, and your most recent heating bill before you start. You can apply in one of the following ways:
- Online: Submit your application through COMPASS
- Paper Application: Request or download an application and submit it by mail
- In Person: Visit your local County Assistance Office for help with the application
